Having sold close to 15 million records worldwide, Ashanti is one of the most iconic names in R&B and collaborators like Ja Rule, Ty Dolla $ign and Lil Wayne; she’s also one of the most well-respected!
For those who aren’t yet utterly obsessed with Ashanti, we’ve compiled 10 of her best songs that will leave you hooked and queuing up to join the fan club.
Foolish
The first single from her self-titled debut album was at number one on the U.S. Billboard Charts for ten weeks! It also charted worldwide and went on to win a swag of awards.
Always On Time
This is technically a Ja Rule song, but it does feature Ashanti (frankly, she sings the best part). The track was number one on the U.S Billboard Charts and was Ashanti’s first number one single!
What’s Luv
Another track Ashanti featured on (but totally made!) – the Fat Joe song, reached number two on the U.S. Billboard Charts – remarkably, at the same time, ‘Always On Time’ was number one – making Ashanti one of the first female artists to hold both #1 and #2 chart positions at once!
Leaving (Always On Time Pt.2)
Some songs are so good they deserve a sequel! That was the case with ‘Always On Time’ – Ja Rule and Ashanti swapped roles on this follow-up, with Ashanti performing the majority and Ja Rule featuring.
Rain On Me
The track performed well in the charts but, more notably, brought attention to the issue of domestic violence in a very real way. Acclaimed filmmaker Hype Williams directed the music video for the single.
Only U
Featuring more of a rock band than what Ashanti fans might’ve been expecting, ‘Only U’ was the lead single from Ashanti’s third studio album, ‘Concrete Rose’ – it charted in the U.S. and around the world.
The Way That I Love You
This track was from Ashanti’s fourth studio album, ‘The Declaration’ – it made the U.S. Billboard Charts and remained there for 18 weeks!
No Where
Released on Ashanti’s fifth album ‘Braveheart’ (the first of her albums produced by her independent label, Written Entertainment), this ballad is an overlooked classic!
Good Good
Another cracker from the Ashanti back catalogue – this track samples Elton John’s ‘Benny And The Jets’ and Michael Jackson’s ‘The Girl Is Mine’. Give it a listen. You are guaranteed to end up on one of your playlists!
Rock Wit U
Fresh off the success of her self-titled debut album, Ashanti released her second album, ‘Chapter II’, with this lead single. ‘Rock Wit U’ is an absolute cracker – somehow both laidback and upbeat… a feat only Ashanti could pull off!
